How Do You Find the Ideal Desk

How Do You Find the Ideal Desk

How do you find the ideal desk?  Does a perfect product exist?  Individual users have different preferences and different expectations.  It is difficult for one product to fulfill the needs of the entire business community.  What a desk is used for and how often it is used should have a drastic impact on a workstations design.

Dimensions

To start designing a perfect workstation, size is a consideration.  Where the desk is going and how much square footage is in a room should have a direct impact on the decision.  If you get a desk that is too large you will have plenty of worksurface area but you will not have much room for chairs and other accessories.  Additionally, a desk that is too big for an area can make a room look small and inadequate.  What a desk will be used for should also have a direct impact on its size.  Some professions require a lot of surface area to display drawling, blueprints, and other type of paperwork.  In contrast many other jobs only require only a computer and smaller footprint desks will be more then adequate.

Shape and Style

Once a determination is made about how large of a desk is needed, the type and shape of the desk can be decided.   The factors to consider when making this decision include how you want to work, what look you want,  and how to maximize the space you have.  In smaller spaces a L-Shaped desk can be used to provide extra work surface area without taking up too much space in a room.  If you want to fill a larger area, consider a U-Shaped Desk.  You can also but a hutch on almost any desk to help maximize storage space.  If you want to hold small meetings at your private desk you can always alter the desks style.  A D-Island or P-Island can make a desk feel inviting to guest can function as a mini conference tale.  Finally, do you prefer to work sitting, standing, or a combination of both.  Desk heights can be altered, and modern desks can adjust with the touch of a button.

Storage

The relationship between work surface area and storage required has evolved and changed with technology.  Many years ago, companies needed to keep cabinets, lateral files, vertical files, and personal desk pedestals because space was at a premium.  In the modern ear most of this paperwork can be storage digitally in a device that fits in the palm of our hands.  Offices and individuals need less space for storage.  However, the need for paperwork and old fashion storage will always exist.  The question is how much space is required?  Many people use old file folder drawers to store personal belongings in and even snacks.  Rarely does a file sized desk pedestal get used for paper files.  When designing a desk, how much storage is need should have a huge impact.  Built in storage comes at the expense of leg space and sometimes comfort.  Additionally, if a desk is meant to be shared a large number of drawers become unnecessary and can even cause issues.  Most people do not like cleaning up after others and useless drawers become magnets for useless stuff.  The type of pedestals and other storage options are often a second thought when thinking about what desk to get, but often they end up being the most important thing.

Design

The last thing to consider when deciding what desk to get is design and style.  A lot of people make the mistake of considering this first and that can create tons of issues.  It does not matter how great an office looks if it does not function properly.  Knowing what is needed should always come first.  Trying to fit a U-Shaped desk into a small space or trying to put a small desk in a large room can make an area feel uncomfortable and strange to be in.  As a result, you will lose focus and productivity will decrease. This does not mean you cannot get function and style.  To achieve the ideal work area that works and is stylish all you need to do is properly plan and be deliberate.  If you do not know where to start, simply ask.  If you have any questions on what desk works best for you feel free to contact us at sales@furniturewholesalers.com.
