Our Office, Our Space, Our Personality

Our Office, Our Space, Our Personality

When it comes to our offices, we tend to be very particular in what we want.  Some of us want large luxurious desks with multiple guest seating options while others prefer small and functional work spaces.  For some, high end style and décor is a must while others prefer simple.  Both approaches have benefits and down sides.

Luxury

When we think about high end executive office we tend to imagine very traditional spaces with wood veneer furniture and high end finishes like specialized drawer and handle hardware.    There are also other approaches as well.  Many people prefer high end modern styles instead of old school traditional looks.  Either way, when designing a stylish, high end, executive suite the most common goal is to impress ourselves and our guests.  This style makes people feel valuable and important.  Large desks and credenzas provide ample work surface area with room to spare to display family photos and other personal items.  Additionally, you can always add a matching hutch, bookcase, lateral file, or storage unit to a decent sized private office.

As we started to embrace the age of the computer our offices didn’t necessarily get smaller but the amount of work surface area needed did decrease.  Tons of papers and files have now been replaced with multiple monitor set ups and high tech incorporation.  This has allowed us to display even more personal items in our offices.  We no longer need the room for books and paperwork and having these items make us feel like we are at home.  As a result, many of our offices have become rooms that make us feel comfortable and relaxed allowing us to stay focused and get a lot of work done.

A More Modest Approach

While some of us love the high end look and the feeling of ambiance that a stylish high end office gives us, some of us prefer more practical work spaces.  A lot of people consider their work space personal areas where they do not want guests and have no desire to impress others.  To them an office is about creating a functional environment where work can be focused on.  This type of office doesn’t have to be smaller in size but often time has more simplistic style furniture.  A wood veneer desk with high end hardware is nice but a laminate desk with basic details is just as functional, often more durable, and can get the job done just as well at a much more affordable price.  Just because you can afford high end furniture doesn’t mean you want to spend your money that way.

Like with high end offices, technology has drastically changed the need for large storage spaces in this type of office setting as well.  Many people have switched their file drawers to snack drawers or a place to store personal items like purses.  Additionally, these more modest offices can be peaceful safe havens for us when we are trying to escape the stress and pressures of a high intensity work environment.  Sometimes simple and quiet is exactly what we need in order to be productive.

Small Offices

The final type of typical office we will talk about today is small offices.  This can be at home or in commercial settings.  We see a lot more small office design concepts appearing because with less need for storage why waste the space.  A small desk with a proper computer and small work surface area fits the needs for most jobs in the modern economy.  Many major companies now offer both high end style and basic budget case good solutions in smaller formats.  A single computer can replace rooms of files and as a result we no longer need to spend as much money on renting office space.  We can save company money and reinvest it elsewhere.  That is why desks are becoming smaller and more basic.  We simply do not have the need for the large spaces anymore.  Additionally, remote working is a trend that is likely to stick around for while.  Companies are starting to realize that large impressive office complexes are declining in favor of smaller, more practical, and better priced options.  The industry will continue to follow the modern trends and we are likely to the boom in small office furniture sales continue for the next several years.

There is no right or wrong way to set up your office space.  What matters most is that it is functional and you enjoy your time working in it.  High end style and design is nice but not necessary.  So when it comes to designing your work area think about what matters to you the most.  What will make you comfortable and what will help you maximize your productivity.  If you are unsure look at some postings online or ask for help.  Feel free to contact us at sales@furniturewholesalers.com for any advice or questions.  Finally, remember to be productive and be comfortable.  Doing so will ensure your happiness while working.
