Halloween Approaches!

Halloween Approaches!

As the end of October approaches, people start making their final plans to celebrate Halloween.  Both children and adults alike can have a great time going to themed parties and showing off creative costumes.  A lot of planning goes into this holiday and it is important not to forget any details.  Below you will find some simple tips to ensure your Halloween goes smoothly and without hassle.

Candy for All

One of the best parts about being a child on Halloween is trick or treating and getting free candy.  This candy was given to you by your neighbors and your fellow community members.  Once you become an adult, it is only right to contribute back.  This is not a difficult commitment.  Most cities and communities now have organized treat or treat times and rules.  Make sure you do your part and participate if you are able.  The first thing you must do is see when treat or treating is scheduled in your neighborhood.   If you can be home for the few hours window, see if there are any signs to be posted to show that you are receptive to trick or treaters.  Once you have done this you simply need to buy some candy at just about any store.  When in doubt buy a little extra, you can always take leftovers in to the office or simply enjoy them yourself.   Have some fun spreading joy to others and laugh at all the adorable costumes.

Decide on a Costume

There are a number of ways to come up with a great Halloween costume.  The easiest, and most expensive, is to go shopping at a party store or a pop up Halloween shop.  You can find all sorts of clever and cute costumes that are all inclusive and take very little prep work to execute.  However, if you want to find a cheaper option, being creative is always a great choice.  If you need an idea simply search online or to go one of these Halloween shops to look for inspiration.  Some of the best costumes are made by shopping in a friend’s closet or at thrift stores.  No matter what avenue you take when getting a great costume, remember it is important not to wait until the last minute.  Waiting too long will result in reduced options, stores sell out of things and it is first come first serve.  Some come up with a plan and execute it sooner than later.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are an iconic part of Halloween.  So picking the right pumpkin is an important shopping experience.  First you must ensure it is the right size and shape, second you must make sure you have the necessary carving tools, and finally it is important to have a creative vision or a stencil kit.  A great and fun way to do this is to go shopping at a local farmers market.  These markets are usually family oriented and pride themselves on provides a great guest experience, especially for children.  These farms are also likely to have events that are a great way to celebrate with friends and family.  If you want to take a more home oriented approached you can usually get these items at just about any store.  Showing your children how to carve a pumpkin can be a memorable experience for just about anyone.  So make sure you take plenty of pictures and have a great jack-o-lantern to show off to your neighborhood.

Don’t be Afraid of Being an Adult

Halloween can be a family focused activity that involves a lot of events designed for children; however, there are also tons of parties and events to attend once the children are asleep.  It is important to remember to have fun yourself.  So ask around and see if any of your friends are hosting an event.  If not check local bars and clubs, they almost certainly will have some sort of event you can partake in.  All you have to do is find a party you want to attend and find a babysitter.  Make sure you know what type of party you want to go to and what type you are attending.  Is there a theme? Are you supposed to wear a costume? Are you supposed to bring something?  Finally, and most importantly, do you need a designated driver?  A lot of holiday inspired drinks are out there and it is fun to try them.  So enjoy but enjoy responsibly.

Halloween is not a real serious holiday but it is a fun one.  It provides us a way to be creative, have some family fun, and to relax and enjoy.  Make sure you contribute to the giving of candy and help create memories for yourself and countless others.
