Don't Forget About the Chairs

Don't Forget About the Chairs

When we design our offices or work areas, we spend a lot of time thinking about desks and color schemes.  We often worry about large furniture items and sometimes do not think about the importance of smaller décor pieces.  One of the most important aspects of any workspace is seating.  Chairs not only make us comfortable but make a huge impression on the aesthetic appearance of a room.  So, when you are thinking about updating your space do not forget about the importance of a chair.

Chairs for Users

The most important chair in any office is the desk chair.  We will spend more time sitting in this chair than any other in the office, we might even spend more time sitting in this chair then we would spend sitting anywhere else.  Most of us work 8 hours a day and likely spend at least 5 of those sitting.  At the end of the week that is 25 hours minimum we spend sitting and working at our desks.  That is likely more time than we spend sitting on our couches or in our cars.  This is the main reason why our office chair is important.  We need to have a chair that is supportive and comfortable and will help us stay active throughout the day.  If we have back pain, odds are our productivity will go down and the quality of work will degrade.  So, comfort is the most important thing.

That being said, how our chair matches our office décor is of crucial importance.  We do not want to have a traditional office chair in a modern cutting edge style office.  It would stick out like a sore thumb and make our office look strange.  It not is not necessary for our chairs to be a perfect match to our desk, but the styles do have to blend well together.  That is the reason why most chairs are black in color.  It matches most furniture pieces and blends in with most decors.  Having a bold color or pattern upholstered on a customer chair is a great touch to any workspace set up, but it is important that it matches everything else.  Making a bold design choice is not bad; although, a chair with a strong visual presence in the wrong setting can ruin the décor of any area.

Guest Chairs

Many of us have large offices and desks that feature guest chairs.  Obviously, the main reason for these chairs is to provide seating for other people when they enter your office.  However, these chairs also provide a crucial design aspect to your workspace.  Guest chairs can make an office look and feel inviting and can add some style to a basic set up.  As discussed above, it is important that these chairs match the rooms décor.  Tufted styled banker’s chairs are a great addition to almost any traditional office set up.  The detail and matching wood color can really add a new dimension to any space.  For more modern style offices there are a wide variety of guest chair choices out there.  You can go with fabric, mesh, or upholstered fabric.  All these materials have their own look and can compliment a wide variety of design choices.  As with task chairs, it is important that these guest chairs match everything else in the room.  You do not want them to give your guests the impression that they do not belong.

Reception Rooms

Probably the most overlooked chairs in any office are the ones that are in the front.  These guest and reception style chairs are often the first thing someone sees when they walk into your office.  They need to be durable, easy to clean, and most importantly stylish.  There are countless ways to arrange and design a great reception area.  You can use individual chairs, you can use a combination of chairs and sofas, or you can get some sort of bench seating.  There is no right or wrong answer to a reception area if the seating is good looking and comfortable.   Consider this, what do you think when you walk into a business and the waiting room chairs are dirty, outdated, and just ugly.  Odds are your initial reaction is to reconsider doing business with this company.  This is the impression you want to avoid in your office.  Guest rooms can be extravagant or basic and both style waiting areas can leave guests with a positive opinion of your company.  The most important thing is that the seating looks clean and well thought out.  So next time you walk in the front door of your office spend a second and look around and ask yourself does this area provide a good first impression for your business?  If not, it might be time to make some changes.

Chairs can make or break any room.  They need to look like they belong, and they need to look like they are there for a purpose.  Spend a minute or two and look at all the chairs in your office.  Do they look neat and inviting?  If not, it might be time for an upgrade, a good cleaning and reorganization, or time to get some design help.  If you have any questions regarding any office seating needs, feel free to contact us at sales@furniturewholesalers.com.  We are always happy to help and have a wide variety of styles and price points to choose from.  Finally, remember do not let a chair ruin the look and feel of your area especially when they are easily changed out.
