8 Fun Office Desk Accessories for 2016
New year, new you. If your New Year’s Resolution is to be more organized, we are here to help. We’ve tracked down eight must-have fun office desk accessories to help you keep your workspace in top condition to stay focused and on-target.
1. Charging Station
Stay organized and keep your electronics under control with a charging station set up with all of your tech’s power cables handy for a power boost when you need it. A charging station usually has an additional drawer to fit writing utensils, a small notepad, or other small accessories you need to have handy but not necessarily out on your desk. Try a stylish station from Urban Outfitters and Brookstone, or purchase a handmade one (at a similar price point!) from Etsy sellers.
2. Vertical Mouse
This mouse is an absolute game changer in the ergonomics department. It reduces wrist strain and provides a neutral hand and wrist position. Using a standard mouse will forever feel sub-par once you embrace the vertical mouse. My personal favorite is from Anker.
3. Personal Desk Fan
To stay cool or just to provide a bit of white noise at your desk, consider a small personal desk fan. The Vornado Zippi has fabric blades that provide all of the airflow with none of the risk of bodily injury from accidentally touching the moving blades. It is lightweight and portable, and the best part is that it is fairly quiet so you don’t have to worry about disturbing coworkers. It’s the perfect personal fan.
4. Day Planner
Staying on top of your work schedule and personal life commitments can be overwhelming! While we have no shortage of apps to track our calendars, there is nothing quite like writing it down. Using a day planner effectively can help you maintain focus and even plan long-term goals and projects if you use a motivational road-map type planner like the Passion Planner which serves as a journal, calendar, and goal setting tool.
5. Business Card Filing
Out with the huge rotary style card index and impossible-to-alphabetize business card books. Business cards aren’t dead, but these archaic ways of keeping them straight are on the way out. Instead, try a slightly humorous but actually quite practical solution: the Business Card File Cabinet. It is more space efficient and attractive than a rotary index but still offers alphabetical tabs for better organization.
6. Coffee Press
The Aeropress is a desk-friendly accessory that can brew up a cup of java in under a minute. Its unique design allows you to make an individual cup of coffee with less acidity and a smoother flavor than traditional drip brewers, and you don’t have to worry about polluting the Earth with more single-use plastic cups. The press takes up little space and can be kept in a desk drawer or kitchenette when not in use for an afternoon pick-me-up!
7. Cable Clips
Keep your cords tangle-free with cable clips to keep your charging cords at arm’s reach. No more fumbling for cables and wondering if you grabbed the right one! We like these colorful clips from BELUGA.
8. Standing Desk
Have you tried a standing desk yet? We’ve written about them in the past and it turns out that a variable height desk that allows a mix of standing and sitting throughout the day shows the best results for improved health and wellness at work. If you are ready for a big desk upgrade for 2016, the Sit/Stand Desk from Balt is an excellent choice.
