Executive Office Desk Buying Guide

Impress your employees, customers and partners with a luxurious Executive Desk and office. Constructed from high-quality materials in a variety of modern and classic styles, you’re certain to find the right desk for your executive office.

For the working executive, a high-quality, functional workspace is essential. The executive desk is at the center of today’s modern office environment. It’s where meetings take place, as managers collaborate with fellow department heads or team members. The desk often includes space for these work sessions, allowing for multiple people to work at the same piece of furniture.

It’s also a matter of image. Executive desks tend to be constructed from higher quality materials than other desks, and may be bigger and more “feature heavy” than regular desks.  Important deals are often negotiated at such desks, and a more luxurious environment acts as both a feature and a benefit for someone at a managerial level.

From a technical point of view, “executive size” typically refers to a desk that is six feet wide by three feet deep. The construction is of a higher quality wood veneer or commercial grade laminate with a premium finish, and includes upscale detail features, upgraded hardware, or bold color finishes. Many U-shaped executive desks come with glass doors on the hutch, for example.

Space & Lighting Considerations

When considering the installation of any new office equipment, it’s important to make sure that you are fully aware of how much space is available and to make sure that you’ve measured correctly so that your new desk or suite will fit.

Make sure to account for doors and windows, so that the new desk, hutch or credenza doesn’t block or obstruct anything. Doors need space to open and close, and desk placement should take into consideration things like natural light, overhead lighting, and any desk lamps that may be needed.

Chairs

Don’t forget chairs! When considering your budget for an executive desk, it’s very important to remember to include chairs, if they are needed. Executives and managers can reasonably expect to see a high-quality office chair along with their executive desk and other office furniture.

Along with the executive desk and chair, the office space may need guest chairs to accommodate meetings and work sessions. This is especially true for larger executive desks that include collaborative work space, as well as suites that include a separate table for the team to work around.  Either way, a couple of matching guest chairs is a great way to help tie the room’s style and feel together, making visitors feel welcome and impressing upon them how well thought out their host’s office space (and business) is.

Storage Options

Combining a high-quality executive desk with a range of matching storage options can help create a truly unique office workspace.

Not only do some of the executive suite options provide these storage items, you can mix-and-match the executive desk with a variety of hutches, file pedestals, cabinets and credenzas. There are plenty of options for under-desk cabinets that can create storage space while maximizing desktop space and allowing you to make the most of the space available in the office. Most executive desks come as part of a series with additional coordinating options available, such as storage cabinets, bookcases, lateral file cabinets, and more.

Matching the Rest of the Office

One important consideration is how the desk fits in with the rest of the office décor. This is often a good reason to consider an executive office suite (see below) instead of trying to make individual pieces match. With a suite, you know that the style and materials used will be the same, and that the desk, hutch, credenza, chairs and more will all match. However, as long as you take into consideration material types and colors, you can find options within our executive desks that will fit in with any existing office space and furniture.

Suites

If you’re looking for an entire office solution, consider a suite that comes with a desk, and cabinets. Some suites include box pedestals, cabinets, and even wardrobes. Suites often come with additional storage space and filing cabinets, making it a perfect “out of the box” solution for a new office space.
